I'm curious, though where people put the tape sim in the chain. So far, I've used NF on drums, piano and bass.

Nomad Factory Magnetic II sounds GREAT! I've used it in conjunction with Waves H-Comp and I'm really digging the results.

But I like what it does to drums, which is really where I'm most concerned right now.

#Softube tape vs oxide update#

I've found that Ferric TDS causes a pretty big hit on my CPU, at least on this machine, which I really want to update someday. You forget it's there as you progress your mix but if you bypass it something completely drops out the mix. Ferric TDS is the only one, to me, that sounds 'natural'. I always ended up bypassing it at some after putting it in the chain. There's something about it that just irritates - it always sounds distorted and grainy no matter how subtle. That's exactly what I found with Reelbus. Setting the INPUT level is critical to hitting that sweet spot that becomes musical. but the presentation that TAUPE delivers, as intregal to the source itself that sounds natural. I still may pull up SLATE, AirWindows, etc, to see/hear. There is also planned a TAUPE-2, that will supply additional Machines and Tape formulas, which should be interesting.Īs it stands, with several test Sessions, I'm finding TAUPE to be the best Tape solution for Mastering. There are a handful of Settings that were of interest to me. I've now been working with Acustica's TAUPE for many weeks now as beta-tester. I'm looking for the density, vibe, and cohesive power that tape can deliver. I'm not looking for 'tape' as a special 'effect'. The PUREGain, BitGain, Acceleration are excellent for my work.Īs for Tapes, in general, my use is specific to a given Project. Granted, in my Mastering work, I test a lot, and have to be selective to the tools I chose from. I'm an AirWindows patreon, and use several of his creations. It can be useful on individual tracks if you WANT a bit of lo-fi flavor, don't get me wrong - but most of the time, people use tape emulation to enhance things, and you're just not gonna get that with Kramer.I don't know what you'd prefer in such a plugin, but give IronOxide5 a try instead. For that reason, I rarely use it, and I'm far, far less likely to use it on the mix bus (I never do, honestly). Almost just a crappier-sounding version of whatever you put it on. Kramer, on the other hand, makes everything sound "lo-fi". I dig that you can subtly change the color with the different tape modeling options, too, and they all sound pretty great. That's a pretty underrated feature of the J37, imo. Concise and intuitive, Tape sounds absolutely superb and is surprisingly broad in its sonic scope. If you use it as a tape delay on an individual track, it's stellar (one of my favorite tape delays). Softube Tape review The distortion masters apply considerable modelling talents to the field of tape emulation for this plugin 99 By Computer Music 02 November 2017. I certainly wouldn't mind using it on the mix bus in some cases. I prefer Slate VTM, but J37 is still an awesome choice. J37 sounds pretty "hi-fi" and it's pretty effective for whatever you'd use tape emulation for (glue, saturation, tape compression, etc.). Haven't used this plugin, but J37 is WAY better than Kramer Tape in my opinion.
